Your Quick Guide To Family Holidays In Fiji
Fijians are well known for their love of family: You’ll see it the moment you arrive to that big Bula welcome!
Here are our favourite resorts for families—every one offering an unforgettable holiday for travellers of all ages.
1. The Naviti Resort
Best for: families with bottomless tummies:
You’d think this friendly 3.5-star resort had crowd-sourced parents’ advice before opening. It’s that perfectly purpose-made for families, with airy rooms sitting steps from the main pool and resort facilities. One of our best values in Fiji, the all-inclusive upgrade is an absolute must, especially if you’re travelling with bottomless pits: it includes all drinks, meals, ice cream and a wide selection of activities.
Minor details:
The Ratu & Adi Vonu Kids Club is open daily for kids ages 5 to 12 years and offers heaps of activities featuring elements of Fijian culture, crafts and games. Wee ones under 5 years are welcome when accompanied by a caregiver. Babysitting is available at a minimal cost.
2. Shangri-Las's Fijian Resort and Spa
Best for: multi-generational family holidays.
This recently refurbished resort offers a gorgeous lagoon pool area and a beach that’s ideal for everybody. The onsite waterpark is a real highlight (even for big kids, like your husband). We recommend this resort for multi-generational family holidays because its adults-only wing lets lucky grandparents easily escape.
Minor details:
The Little Chief's Club is open daily, and activity coordinators keep kids entertained with activities at the children's pool, on the beach and at the playground. What’s more, two children (ages 12 years and under) per room eat free from the designated children’s menus at the resort’s “Kids Eat Free” restaurants — when they’re accompanied by a full paying adult. More than two? A reduced rate applies. Children ages 13 to 16 years are charged a 30% discount for buffet meals at the all-day dining restaurant.
3. Plantation Island Resort
Best for: Families of All Ages:
This resort feels custom-made for family holidays: It sits on a postcard-perfect beach with incredible snorkelling and its own waterpark. Part of Plantation Island’s beachfront is a sheltered lagoon, so even the most timid swimmers can feel confident. And landlubbers won’t want to leave the two new outdoor playgrounds: one for wee ones under 5 years and the other suited to bigger ones ages 6 to 12 years. Not surprisingly, it’s extremely popular: We recommend booking at least 6 months in advance.
Minor Details:
The daily Coconut Kids Club is open for kids ages 4 years and over and offers plenty of activities and Fijian learning. Smaller children can visit the onsite creche and young teens ages 12 to 16 years can make friends at the Lairo Teens Club. Babysitting and 24-hour nanny service is available at an additional cost.
4. Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort
Best for: customised child minding in a 5-star setting:
This resort’s claim to fame is having been built in the formation of a Fijian village, complete with thatched roofing, manicured gardens and palm trees. A generic hotel this is not: You’ll definitely know you’re in the islands. And if you’re used to feeling like the family butler, enjoy passing duties to the resort’s complimentary Talei Butler Service, which offers traditional 5-star butler services with a South Pacific twist. Our favourite part? The champagne and canapés that appear every afternoon!
Minor details:
A daily kids club is open to children ages 3 to 12 years and offers full days of supervised activities, Fijian games and tours. Customised Meimei babysitting is available for an additional fee. Even better, children 12 years and younger eat free. For teens, the resort runs a special host of activities like sand dune adventures, hikes, spear-making and—perhaps a harder sell—an exchange trip to a local Fijian high school. There is a nominal fee for this program.
5. Warwick Fiji
Best for: kids with very different interests:
This five-star property on the Coral Coast is our go-to for great value at a beachfront location. Our customers rave about the fantastic atmosphere. We like to recommend this spot for multi-generational family holidays because of its adults-only areas and quiet accommodation wing: A great way to tempt those aunties and uncles. We also love the onsite games rooms, golf, squash and tennis courts — you might even miss hearing “I’m bored!”
Minor Details:
The Warwick Kids Club is open daily for kids ages 3 to 12 years. Depending on their age, kids can get involved in fish feeding, crafts, face painting, kayaking, snorkelling, sports and more. Many activities bring a Fijian cultural focus. Babysitting is available for a nominal fee.
6. Treasure Island, Fiji
Best for: hands-on holiday learning:
If you’re bringing budding biologists, this is the spot! Sitting on a marine reserve, Treasure Island offers excellent snorkelling along a pristine beach. The resort’s Turtle Sanctuary offers plenty of learning and the chance to be part of turtle releases. Your little Darwin can also spot protected Fijian crested iguanas at a Treasure Island breeding programme. On top of that, it’s easy: Close to the mainland, the resort offers speedboat transfers around the clock to make airport connections a breeze.
Minor details:
The Little Treasures Kids Club is open daily for kids ages 4 to 11 years and offers hands-on learning about Fijian culture and the fascinating wildlife so close to the resort. Babysitting is available for a nominal fee, and the resort offers pram hire to make simplify packing!
7. Castaway Island, Fiji
Best for: feeling like a part of the family:
This customer favourite boasts a return rate of nearly 60%, so families love it enough to keep heading back. It’s easy to understand: It really feels like Castaway family and staff, many of whom have been around for years, welcoming guests into their home. It doesn’t hurt that the resort sits on a stunning beach and offers remarkably spacious bures—some sized for large families but all easily accommodating up to three children.
Minor details:
The Castaway Kids Club is open daily and well into the evening with supervised adventures and Fijian educational games for kids ages 3 years and over. Babysitting is available at a nominal charge.
