“I love the House of Travel community. Its like family here, people are so kind and warm and open! I genuinely love coming to work to see them, to be part of something I think is really special.”
Anna Marshall
Sustainability Manager
Tell me about your journey, how did you get to be a Hottie?
I came into the House of Travel group in January 2024, I saw the role advertised online and leaped to apply! I have always wanted to work for the House of Travel group, and I had been out of the Travel industry since covid so it seemed like a really good time to apply.
Take us behind the scenes - what does a day in your life look like?
Every day is totally different, one minute I could be in a meeting about the measurement of our carbon footprint work, next meeting could be talking to our customers about theirs, another meeting talking about our sponsorships, then the next about tech! Its very busy, with a huge amount of variety which is perfect for someone like me so I love it.
What advice would you give someone just starting their career or is interested in your role?
My role covers Sustainability across our organisation and there are very few of us in the Travel Industry right now in these roles. I wish there were many more and there will be given there is so much opportunity in this area, and it’s growing fast. I would say, jump onto Linkedin, check out as many profiles of Sustainability Managers you can find and look at their backgrounds, how did they get into their roles, learn from their content, join some groups like the Sustainable Business network and start talking to people in the community.
Is there anything people don’t understand about your job that you wish they did?
That Sustainability isn’t just about the environment, there is a lot of confusion about that. Climate change – is not just about environmental challenges, its about the social and economic challenges we face as well. Sustainability is a great place of innovation and inspiration to make positive changes.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love helping to educate others, our teams, our customers - I love to help and support them, and I love the House of Travel community. Its like family here, people are so kind and warm and open! I genuinely love coming to work to see them, to be part of something I think is really special.
How would you explain to your friends and family what working here is like?
That it’s a family. That people are caring. That our people absolutely love Travel and helping their customers plan their special holidays. It's a group of very genuine people.
What is it about House of Travel that keeps you coming back?
The people and the ability to help create some change.
What are you looking forward to currently, in your role and personally?
By mid-2025, we would have measured our organisations carbon footprint, and I love data! It tells an important story, so I can’t wait to have all of that done, and our base year established so we can start working on how we can make some important changes. We have just started forming our Sustainability champion teams, so I can’t wait to get that off the ground also.
